Dis-Shelled

  • DIS-SHELLED is a compostable material made from egg shells, which are collected from a local cafe. This food by-product is then transferred to the The Little Disruptors’ Co-Op for cleaning and processing.

Once processed, the shells are then added to a mineral and water based mix that is placed into mold’s for the setting process to take place.

Once the material has set and become hard and durable the creation process starts.

Due to the founder of TLD’s background, the use of this material has been focused on an alternative compostable wearable, which has a variety of uses including; chainmail, embellishment, trims, buttons and wearable art pieces.

    coming soon…………………………….

Research and development is currently being planned for this material, to add flexibility. Incorporating natural rubber into the ingredients has the potential to increase the use factor and increase the number of toxic materials it can replace.

The Process

From nature, returned to nature is the process of Dis-Shelled, starting with a collaboration between between TLD and Mae & Harvey (a local bakery, using eggs as part of their menu). TLD collect the by-product of this process (egg shells) and transfer them to The Little Disruptors’ Co-Op for cleaning and processing. Once the shells are prepared, the mixing and moulding process begins. After 24h the material is ready for the crafting process to begin and the wearable to be created - made with the intention to be returned to nature.
